Movies at the Historic Milton Theatre

What a great idea! Movies at the Milton Theatre and there are some great movies coming up this month. There’s a great mix of recent releases, many of which were Oscar nominated. On May 5th, the feature is Julie and Julia, one of my favorites of the past year.

Movie Schedule

The old Milton Theatre, once a celebrated, state-of-the-art, art deco movie house, was rescued from near ruin in 2000 and has been revitalized to operate, once again, as a showcase for the year’s most popular movies after their release in digital format, and for those classic films of yesteryear. The community enjoys “Movies in Milton”-a monthly series of movies screenings at the Theatre- and collaborations with area film societies and independent movie producers to premier and promote their film programs.

Wagamon's Pond

Wagamon's Pond

On my way home this evening I couldn’t help but pull over and snap this photo. Come to think of it, some of my best shots are taken right here on Wagamon’s Pond. When it’s still like tonight the pond mirrors the setting sun and it is quite beautiful.

Now that Spring has arrived, I’ll catch many  more great sunsets on my way home to share with you. This is one of the great things about living in Milton, Delaware.

Become a Volunteer

Boomers are becoming a great source of new volunteers for organizations of all kinds. Certainly services like Meals on Wheels depend heavily on new retirees that finally have time to help those less fortunate. I’ve been very impressed with the retired couples I’ve met that deliver meals on a daily basis to the elderly throughout Sussex County.
But arts organizations also benefit from the new volunteers, some of whom discover new talents they never had time to pursue until they retired. In Milton, for example, The Milton Theater offers opportunities to help run this restored theater in the heart of town. That could mean helping to put on performances, working behind the curtain or even auditioning for one of the plays! They also need help with tickets sales and manning the refreshment stand.
Become a docent at The Milton Historical Society, learn about the town’s history and share it with others!
These are just two ways you can become part of the town of Milton, meet new people and have a great time.

The Story of Milton

The Milton Historical Society is a great source of information on all things Milton, including its early years as a major Shipbuilding town. At the society’s web site, you’ll find a narrated slideshow that I found very interesting. Milton has survived the demise of the shipbuilding industry, two fires that destroyed much of the downtown in the early 1900s and a major flood. Much of the town has now been restored and the historic architecture is one of the town’s main attractions today.

Milton Historical Society Benefit Event

On Sunday, February 7th, between 12 noon and 5 pm, Salon Milton will hold its annual benefit for the Milton Historical Society. Last year I had great fun filming the day’s events with my Flip Video camera. It was one of my first and you can watch that video here Fun Fundraising in Milton!.
Salon Milton, located at 517 Chestnut Street in Milton, marks its fourth year of operation on the same day and it promises to be a fun event. The salon offers hair cuts, manicures and a bake sale – all to benefit the Milton Historical Society. Casa San Francisco benefits all winter long from canned food that you drop off at the salon.
To schedule yourself for a hair-cut or manicure please call ahead at 302-684-1880.
