Christmas in Milton, Delaware

Small towns are the best places to spend the holidays and Milton, Delaware, shows you why. It all begins with the Christmas Parade on December 7th at 7 pm. The best place to be is in the heart of town near the Library, close to Irish Eyes. That’s where you’ll find everyone gathered when the parade has passed.

Holly Festival

Held on December 10th from 9 am – 3 pm, the Holly Festival is one of my favorite places to shop for Christmas gifts. Always a sell-out, crafters and artisans are set up at both the Milton Fire Hall and at Goshen Hall on Federal Street. Don’t forget to visit Santa between 11 and 2 at Goshen Hall and bring your camera. Volunteers will be happy to help snap a photo for you to take home.

Holiday House tour

Then tour the 8 homes and 2 historic buildings featured on the Holiday House tour for 2011. The tour begins at 3:30 and continues until 7:30 pm. When we lived in Milton, we were one of the homes featured on the tour and it was a wonderful holiday experience. Now I look forward to being able to see the other homes. Time for the 6th Annual Best of Milton Auction to be held on September 10th from 4 to 7:30 pm at the Milton Fire Hall. All donations helps the Milton Historical Society meet their mission of collecting and sharing the history of Milton and the Broadkill Hundred. This is a great way to get to know Milton. We always run into friends who have lived in town forever and meet newcomers who just arrived. It’s always a great time and we usually leave with some great finds.

Best of Milton Auction

Everything from a symphony package to a cruise to Bermuda will be up for bid during a silent and live auction to benefit the Milton Historical Society Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Milton Fire Hall, 116 Front St. in downtown Milton. Guests can enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres, Dogfish Head beer and Teller wines from 4 to 7:30 p.m. as they shop through a large array of items, trips and services.

Bargains on the Broadkill, October 8, 2011

This year is just flying by and it’s time again for one of our favorite events in the town of Milton – Bargains on the Broadkill and the Great Duck Race! Organized every year by the Milton Chamber of Commerce, this popular event draws hundreds of people to town. And, you just might win the big prize if you buy the winning duck!

Last year the 1st Place Grand Prize was $500 for the winning duck and there were lots of other prizes donated by local businesses. Put this event on your calendar and come to Milton for some great family fun.

1st Annual Milton Antique and Art Show

First Annual Milton Antique & Art Outdoor Show

Twenty-one quality dealers will exhibit and sell bottles, pottery, advertising, and other antiques. Seven artists will exhibit and sell paintings and other fine art. Dealers and artists are coming from throughout Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The event is rain or shine.

Memorial Day Weekend in Milton, DE

It’s time for the popular Horseshoe Crab|Shorbird Festival on Memorial Day Weekend in Milton, Delaware. This event has something for everyone and activities take place all day Saturday, May 28th, 2011, in Downtown Milton and at the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Farmers Market comes to Milton DE

The new Milton Farmers Market is finally here! Every Friday afternoon from 4 – 7 pm, local growers will be set up on the grounds next to the Milton Historical Society and the public parking lot, right in the heart of town.

Residents of the town of Milton have been working hard for several years to bring the Farmers Market to town. It’s easy to find so put it on your calendars! What a great time to stock up of fresh vegetables, flowers and more for the weekend.

Dirty Dozen Mud Run in Milton DE

When I first heard about the 1st Annual Downstate Delaware Dirty Dozen Mud Run I thought they were just kidding! Then today I saw the long list of registered teams and participants ready for the fun on Saturday, April 16th, at 9 am at The Shamrock Farm in Milton, Delaware. Each team is made up of 3 people, men, women or co-ed, with names like the “Three Stooges”, “The Victorious Secrets”, the “Dirty Blondes” and “The Muddy Ducts”. Registration maxed out at 120 teams!

Matt Carter, the owner of Quest Fitness in Lewes, my gym, and Tim Bamforth of Seashore Striders are always coming up with great new ideas to foster fitness while having a great time.

St. Patrick’s Day in Milton, DE

Delmarva Roots at Milton, DE firehall

Vanishing Voices of World War II features recollections from two dozen of the 100 veterans included in James Diehl’s two books, World War II Heroes of Southern Delaware, and World War II Heroes of Coastal Delaware. Told from the perspective of men, and one woman, who served during that time period and today call southern Delaware home, this documentary allows Delawarean World War II veterans voices to be heard forever. [2009, USA, Runtime: 56 minutes, Not rated] After the screening, James Diehl, writer and co-producer of the film and author of the books that inspired it, will give a brief presentation and lead a Q&A session. Mr. Diehl is passionate about bringing recognition to those who served in World War II, and this screening and presentation will ensure that our local heroes will be remembered.
