Summer Free Concerts in Milton Memorial Park every Wednesday at 7 pm during June, July and August
Milton Garden & House Tour on the 2nd Saturday in July sponsored by the Milton Garden Club. This year that will be on July 14th from 10 am to 4 pm.
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and their very popular tours.
Bargains on the Boardkill & The Great Duck Race in conjunction with the Canoe & Kayak Race on the Broadkill River in Milton Memorial Park on the 4th Saturday in August. This year that is August 25th, from 9 am to 3 pm

Walkability in Milton, Delaware

Do you want to live where you can walk to town? Sounds like a simple request but it is not always easy to find a home in Coastal Delaware where you don’t need your car daily. One town that is walkable is Milton, Delaware. Let’s take an example:

206 Chestnut Street

This home at 206 Chestnut Street is for sale in the heart of the Historic District. Over the years it has been updated and added onto, but the charm and exterior look of the home was preserved. A first floor bedroom and bath was added which is very unusual in many historic homes. The garage was just built 4 years ago and a screened porch was added.

What is the Walk Score of 206 Chestnut Street?

According to walkscore.com the walk score is 68. When I looked at the list of restaurants, shops, parks and other businesses, I noticed that many businesses I frequent are not yet listed so I believe the score should be higher. From here you can walk to the:

Milton Public Library – Delaware does libraries well and the library in Milton is one of the best small town libraries in the State

Milton Memorial Park – enjoy fishing, boating, and concerts during the summer season

Irish Eyes – where you can sit on the patio overlooking the park

The Vintage Café – one of my favorite places for lunch with friends

Salon Milton – owned by John Potocki, this salon is a gathering place and John is the unofficial Ambassador for the town of Milton.

I could go on, but if you are thinking of moving to Coastal Delaware, you can live in town and enjoy the simple life.

A Parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! What could be better. When Irish Eyes opened it’s Milton location, this new tradition began and it has become a local favorite. The Parade kicks off on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 2 pm and everyone in town is Irish for at least this one day! After the Parade, the Milton Chamber of Commerce will host an Informal Mixer at Irish Eyes. Look forward to seeing you there!

Milton Chamber introduces new web site

One sure way to see how the town of Milton is growing is to visit the brand new web site at HistoricMilton.com. Wow is all I can say. Developed by Fine Line Websites with photography by Maria DeForrest, this site is now up to the level of any Chamber of Commerce in any town regardless of the size or number of business members. Business to business participation in the Chamber and its support of town events and functions is also growing and that is what makes it such an exciting time here in Coastal Delaware.

Christmas in Milton, Delaware

Small towns are the best places to spend the holidays and Milton, Delaware, shows you why. It all begins with the Christmas Parade on December 7th at 7 pm. The best place to be is in the heart of town near the Library, close to Irish Eyes. That’s where you’ll find everyone gathered when the parade has passed.

Holly Festival

Held on December 10th from 9 am – 3 pm, the Holly Festival is one of my favorite places to shop for Christmas gifts. Always a sell-out, crafters and artisans are set up at both the Milton Fire Hall and at Goshen Hall on Federal Street. Don’t forget to visit Santa between 11 and 2 at Goshen Hall and bring your camera. Volunteers will be happy to help snap a photo for you to take home.

Holiday House tour

Then tour the 8 homes and 2 historic buildings featured on the Holiday House tour for 2011. The tour begins at 3:30 and continues until 7:30 pm. When we lived in Milton, we were one of the homes featured on the tour and it was a wonderful holiday experience. Now I look forward to being able to see the other homes. Advance tickets can be purchased at Salon Milton or at Lewes Printing.

Best of Milton September 10, 2011

Time for the 6th Annual Best of Milton Auction to be held on September 10th from 4 to 7:30 pm at the Milton Fire Hall. All donations helps the Milton Historical Society meet their mission of collecting and sharing the history of Milton and the Broadkill Hundred. This is a great way to get to know Milton. We always run into friends who have lived in town forever and meet newcomers who just arrived. It’s always a great time and we usually leave with some great finds.

Milton CHEER Center Opens
